I did not write this ad. But it's posted next to my telephone, so I read it about once
a week United Technologies published it as part of a series that ran
from 1979 to 1983. No illustrations or photos. No colors. Not
even a logo. Yet, the ads generated a half million letters, asking
for 2 million reprints. The series no longer runs, but it still
pulls responses every day, like my request to reprint the ad above. Good writing, good messages, stand the test of time. If you agree, I'd welcome the opportunity to work with you. jed@jedblock.com

This Will Make You
Feel Better
If you sometimes
get discouraged,
consider this fellow:
He dropped out
of grade school.
Ran a country store.
Went broke.
Took 15 years
to pay off
his bills.
Took a wife.
Unhappy marriage.
Ran for House.
Lost twice.
Ran for Senate
Lost twice.
Delivered speech
that became
a classic.
Audience indifferent.
Attacked daily
by the press
and despised
by half the country.
Despite all this,
imagine
how many people
all over the world
have been
inspired
by this awkward,
rumpled,
brooding man
who signed his name
simply,
A. Lincoln.
How we perform as individuals will determine
how we perform as a nation. FREE: If you would like
an 8 1/2" x 11" reprint of this message, write to
